Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we don't, and how to reach us. Last updated 5 July 2026.
The short version
HurriTrack is a free, independent Atlantic hurricane tracker. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site. We don't sell your personal information. The "is a storm near me?" check runs entirely in your browser, and we only store an email and a rough location if you choose to join the storm-alert waitlist.
Your location (the "near me" check)
When you tap "Check my area", your browser asks for permission to share your location. That location is used only inside your browser to measure the distance and bearing to active storms. It is not sent to our servers or any third party, and it is discarded when you close or reload the page. You can decline the permission and still use the rest of the site.
The storm-alert waitlist
If you submit the waitlist form, we store the email address and the area you enter. If you use the optional "my current location" button on that form, we store your coordinates rounded to about 11 km (one decimal place) — enough to match you to a regional storm, not to identify your home. We use this only to email you when storm alerts launch.
- No alerts are being sent yet — the feature isn't live, so signups sit on a waitlist.
- Unconfirmed signups are deleted automatically after 7 days. Once we can send email, we'll add a confirmation step (double opt-in) before keeping an address long-term.
- You can ask us to delete your waitlist entry at any time (see Contact).
Cookies & advertising
HurriTrack is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can control this:
- Manage ad personalization at Google My Ad Center.
- Opt out of personalized advertising from participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
- See how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Analytics
We do not currently run a third-party analytics provider. If we add one, we'll choose a privacy-respecting, cookie-light option and update this page before turning it on.
What our servers see
Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request data — such as your IP address and browser type — to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We use your IP address transiently to rate-limit the waitlist form; we don't build advertising profiles from it. The live storm data itself comes from NOAA's National Hurricane Center; visiting HurriTrack does not share your identity with NOAA.
Children
HurriTrack is a general-audience safety information site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices & rights
You can decline location access, avoid the waitlist form, and use your browser's ad and cookie controls at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete the limited data we hold about you — email us and we'll help.
